The photographer behind the lens
I’m Raymond Papenfus, a South African wildlife photographer with a passion for photographing animals and birds in their natural environment.
Kruger National Park has become a major part of my life, and I’m fortunate to spend a great deal of time exploring and photographing its wildlife.
What I enjoy most about wildlife photography is that you never know what you’re going to encounter. Some days it’s an incredible predator sighting. On others, it’s a small bird, an unexpected interaction or a chance to photograph something familiar in a completely different way.
Photography has changed the way I experience the bush. I pay more attention to animal behaviour, light, movement and the smaller details that are easy to overlook.
I’m also studying towards a field guide qualification, which is giving me an even greater understanding of the wildlife I spend so much time photographing.
Before spending more of my time behind the camera, I worked in construction and carpentry. Moving towards wildlife photography has allowed me to pursue something I’ve become increasingly passionate about.
Through this website, I share some of my favourite photographs and the experiences behind them.
